Signature’s 11th Birthday is almost here, but that birthday is taking a backseat to another birthday this year.
I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Our family certainly had one that will be hard to top. On Saturday our oldest grandson achieved the high rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. This represents a huge amount of work and a commitment to a way of life of service, integrity and honesty. The ceremony was especially emotional for us since our oldest friend, who is also an Eagle Scout, traveled from far away to administer the oath.
That alone would have been wonderful but was especially terrific because our son from California came to be part of the Eagle Scout ceremony and to celebrate my birthday on Sunday the 27th.
Turns out that was just the beginning because I got a present that will be hard to beat: At 12:00 am exactly on the 27th our youngest son and his wife had their first baby – a beautiful and perfect little boy named after his paternal great grandfather. I would love to show you a picture, but the new parents are protecting his privacy.
Many of you have met our granddaughter Katie, and she is now not the baby of the family, and our oldest Eagle Scout grandson has to work at being the favorite grandson, but both of them like all the rest of the family are loving that new little guy. We haven’t had a baby in the family for 15 years and all the wonders of a newborn have flooded back: their soft skin, the sweet smell and the awe at how such a perfect creature can make us fall in love at first sight.
What I can show you is the first sweater I made for him. It is an homage to the family’s love for the Green Bay Packers and I was happy to find some football buttons. It is a Cascade washable/dryable cotton so there is no issue of asking a new mom to hand wash or lay flat to dry.
Back at work Signature is 11 this week and unless you are a newborn you know that at every birthday we all say, “where has the time gone?”. The same is being said here. Time passing always means change. We are wishing “Bon Voyage” to Donna who many of you know from interacting with her. It has been a joy to have her here, but she wants to spend more time with her husband. If you call with a question or order you may get to speak to Annette, who is a Bothe employee, but is now going to be part of Signature. I know you will find her willing to help and willing to ask others here if something comes up that she doesn’t know.
